Copán in 1893
In 1891 Honduras granted archaeologists from Harvard’s Peabody Museum a ten-year concession to carryout research in Copán. One byproduct of the agreement is an archive of glass plate negatives that survived over 120 years, documenting Copán prior to its touristification.
Rafael Platero Paz
Rafael Platero Paz, born in 1898 in Santa Tecla, El Salvador, moved to Honduras in the late 1920s to work as a photographer for the United Fruit Company. The company, based in El Progreso, Yoro, tasked him with capturing photographs of their banana plantations, infrastructure, and workers
